Button depressed ;  the wait is long .
Inside looking out, uncomfortable,
The door remains open way too long .
There is a thumping underfoot
Like a heartbeat .
The door finally slides shut :   swish ;
Woosh ;  descent into darkness—
Swallowed by silence .
Noise from the previous world
Fades like ripples across a lake .
