on the margin.

in Africa is quite the
character — aggressive with
a powerful bite.
In spite of that,
it’s a devoted father:

one male stays to watch the brood
once mating ends.

In little pools
around a larger pond, bullfrogs spawn.
Unless the male takes measures,
in the hour

the tadpoles will all be dead.

He’s resolute.
Plowing the mud with back legs,
engineering a canal
to the main pond –
a senior job.

Down they swim:

                                        the tadpoles live.
